The International Partnership for Service Learning (IPSL) offers the following immersive language courses:
FRN - IPSL Immersive Language Courses
FRN-225: French Language Basic A1 (Credits: 1 to 9)
This introductory level course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of French. Through a combination of interactive classroom activities, audiovisual materials, and practical exercises, students will acquire basic vocabulary and grammar, and develop essential skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of the course, students will be able to engage in simple everyday conversations, comprehend basic written texts, and write short messages and descriptions.
FRN-226: French Language Basic+ A2 (Credits: 1 to 9)
Building upon the foundation laid in the A1 level, this course aims to strengthen student's proficiency in French. Emphasizing communicative competence, students will expand their vocabulary, learn more complex grammatical structures and enhance their listening and speaking skills through role-plays, discussions and presentations. Reading comprehension and writing abilities will also be further developed, enabling students to handle a wider range of topics and express themselves more fluently.
FRN-325: French Intermediate B1 (Credits: 1 to 9)
At the intermediate level, this course focuses on deepening students' understanding and command of French language and culture. Through authentic materials, multimedia resources, and interactive activities, students will refine their grammatical knowledge, expand their vocabulary, and develop a greater ability to engage in discussions and express opinions. Reading and listening comprehension skills will be honed through exposure to various texts and audio sources, while writing skills will be enhanced through composing coherent paragraphs and short essays.
FRN-326: French Intermediate B2 (Credits: 1 to 9)
This advanced level course is designed for students who have already acquired a solid foundation in French. It aims to further polish their language skills to a near-native level. Students will delve into more complex linguistic structures, idiomatic expressions, and cultural nuances. Through authentic materials, such as literature, newspapers, and films, students will deepen their reading and listening comprehension abilities. Speaking and writing skills will be refined through in-depth discussions, debates, and composition tasks, enabling students to express themselves accurately and fluently in a variety of contexts.

GER-225: German Language: Beginner (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) German A1 level course is designed for absolute beginners who have little to no prior knowledge of the Italian language. A student at the A1 level can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
GER-226: German Language: Basic User (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) German A2 level course is designed for the basic user, a student who has some essential German language skills. A student at the A2 level can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
GER-325: German Language: Intermediate (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) German B1 level course is designed for the intermediate German student. A student at the B1 level can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
GER-326: German: Intermediate-High (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) German B2 level course is designed for intermediate-high German speakers. A student at the B2 level can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
GER-425: German Language: Proficient (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) German C1 level course is designed for proficient German speakers. A student at the C1 level can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
GER-426: German Language Native/Proficient (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) German C2 level course is designed for advanced German speakers who have a mastery of the language. A student at the C2 level can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.

KOR-225: Korean Language Beginner A1 (Credits: 1 to 9)
This Korean A1 level course is designed for absolute beginners who have little to no prior knowledge of the Korean language. The course aims to provide learners with a basic foundation in Korean language skills, focusing on essential vocabulary, grammar structures, and basic communication strategies. The goals of this Korean A1 level course is to equip learners with the necessary skills and confidence to communicate in simple, everyday situations and lay the groundwork for further language study.
KOR-226: Korean Language Beginner + A2 (Credits: 1 to 9)
This Korean A2 level course is designed for learners who have a basic understanding of Korean and are able to communicate in simple, routine situations with some confidence. The course builds upon the foundation established in the A1 level, expanding vocabulary, grammar knowledge, and communication skills. By the end of this Korean A2 level course, learners should be able to communicate effectively in most everyday situations, understand the main ideas of simple texts and conversations, and express opinions and ideas with reasonable fluency and accuracy. They should also have a better understanding of Korean grammar and culture, laying the groundwork for further language study at the B1 level.
KOR-325: Korean Language Intermed B1 (Credits: 1 to 9)
This Korean B1 level course is designed for learners who have a solid understanding of Korean and are able to communicate fluently and accurately in a variety of situations. At this level, learners are capable of expressing themselves with increased proficiency, understanding more complex texts and conversations, and engaging in discussions on various topics. By the end of a Korean B1 level course, learners should be able to communicate effectively and confidently in most situations, understand complex texts and conversations with ease, and engage in discussions on a wide range of topics with native or proficient speakers. SPN-350: Spanish for Health Sciences (Credits: 6)
This course is for Intermediate Spanish learners who want to improve their language skills in the medical field. You will learn the vocbulary and communication techniques that doctors, nurses and patients use in healthcare settings. The course covers different medical specialties and focuses on the full communication process--from when a patient describes their symptoms to when a healthcare professional gives a diagnosis and treatment plan. During the course, you will practice important sentence structures and keywords that are essential for clear communication in healthcare. The goal is to help you feel confident using Spanish in medical situations, whether you are talking to patients or other professionals. You will also learn about the cultural differences and communication styles that are important in Spanish-speaking healthcare environments, so you can handle real-life situations better.
SPN-351: Business Spanish (Credits: 6)
This course if for Intermediate Spanish learners who want to improve their language skills in the business field. Students will learn how the business world is structured and about the rights and responsibilities of workers and employers. The focus will be placed on communication skills and vocabulary related to the business field as well as care studies on most famous brands and companies in the Spanish-speaking world. Students will analyse and discuss the components of fostering a good envirment and presenting a company's goals and projects. They will also develop their negotiation skills in Spanish.
SPN-425: Spanish Language Proficient (Credits: 1 to 9)
This CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) Spanish C1 level course is designed for proficient Spanish speakers.
